Yuji Nagayama

Yuji Nagayama is a professor of Department of Molecular Medicine, Atomic Bomb Disease Institute at Nagasaki University in Japan and a basic scientist working on the field of thyroidology. His academic achievements include the molecular cloning of human thyrotropin receptor cDNA, a series of studies on structure and function of the thyrotropin receptor, establishment of mouse model of Graves' hyperthyroidism, a series of studies on the pathogenesis of autoimmune thyroid diseases, establishment of mouse model of BRAF-V600E-positive thyroid cancer, characterization of thyroid cancer stem cells, among others. He has also recently been working on radiation-induced thyroid carcinogenesis by using various genetically engineered mice. Experimentation with mice is the main tool for his recent research.
