Elena J Tucker

Dr Tucker studies the genetic basis of diseases, with a current focus on female infertility. She is Team Leader of the Ovarian Development and Disease program within Reproductive Development at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, where she uses a multi-omics strategy to discover new genetic causes of a leading form of female infertility, premature ovarian insufficiency. This is coupled with the development of innovative models for functional validation and ovarian disease modelling, including Drosophila modelling and the development of patient cell lines. The significance of this work includes the ability to offer better treatment and counselling to affected individuals, and screening of family members to detect pre-symptomatic individuals that can benefit from early intervention such as cryopreservation of eggs and hormone-replacement therapy. Dr Tucker is ranked in the top 0.1% of researchers of Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (Expertscape) and has 43 publications (28 first/senior authorship) published in leading journals such as Nature Genetics, Endocrine Reviews, Cell Metabolism, Human Genetics and Human Mutation and with high citation (>1800, Scopus). Dr Tucker’s research contributes to better understanding of ovarian biology and pathology as well as improved diagnosis and management of women with infertility.
