Dr R.V.Jayakumar is at present working as Director and CEO, in Indian Institute of Diabetes, Trivandum, India. Jayakumar has graduated from Trivandrum Medical College and did his post graduate training in the same institutuion and passed M.D. in general medicine in 1973. Later on he did Endocrinology D.M. from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and R esearch, Chandigarh in 1977. He then passed the DipNB examination in Endocrinology in 1978 and later on given MNAMS. In 1982 he passed the MRCP examination from U.K. and later on conferred FRCP from Glasgow Royal College, in 1995. Dr R.V.Jayakumar worked in various Government Medical Colleges in Kerala State and was Professor and Head of Medicine in Trivandrum and Kottayam medical Colleges. After retiring from Government Medical college service, he worked as Professor of Endocrinology at Amrita Institute of Medical Science, Cochin, where he started the post doctoral DM , training in Endocrinology, first time in the state of Kerala. Dr Jayakumar is interested in Clinical Endocrinology and especially Thyroid diseases and Pubertal disorders. He has 52 publications in various Journals and has authored 5 chapters in various Text books. He was the Editor in Chief of Thyroid Research and Practice Journal and in the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Endocrinology. He was also the Associate Editor of International Journal of Diabetes in Developing Countries. Dr R.V.Jayakumar was the Founder President of the Indian Thyroid Society and was previously the President of Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India.. He was also the past President of the Endocrine Society of India.. Recently he was elected to the Governing body of the Asia Oceanic Thyroid Society.
