Peter Koopman
Peter Koopman is Professor of Developmental Biology at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience, The University of Queensland, Australia. He was part of the team that discovered the Y-chromosomal sex-determining gene Sry, recognized as one of the most important breakthroughs in 20th century genetics. His current research focuses on the molecular genetics of sex development, fertility, gonadal cancers and intersex disorders.
Prof Koopman is author of over 250 papers, including 5 in Nature, 7 in Nature Genetics, 2 in Science and 2 in Cell, which together have been cited 13000 times in the literature. He is an editor of Sexual Development and recipient of a number of awards including the GSK Award for Research Excellence in 2007 and the Lemberg Medal in 2009. He is a Senior Principal Research Fellow of the NHMRC and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.
