Paul McKeegan

Dr Paul McKeegan is presenting his work as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Leeds (UK). He completed his BSc (Honours) in Biochemistry in 2009 and a PGCE (Chemistry) in 2010 at the University of York. Paul went on to undertake his PhD entitled “Metabolic regulation during early embryo development” at the Hull York Medical School with Dr Roger Sturmey and Prof Henry Leese, graduating in 2015. He went on to postdoctoral research with Prof Helen Picton at the University of Leeds, focussing on the metabolic signatures of primordial follicle activation in sheep and humans. He then worked with Prof Picton and Dr Virginia Pensabene to optimise novel microfluidic devices for mouse embryo culture. This project was followed up by optimising this device for use with bovine embryos and incorporating novel approaches to metabolic profiling with Prof Picton, Dr Pensabene and Dr Paolo Actis. He received the Society for Reproduction and Fertility Postdoctoral Prize for his talk at Fertility 2019 in Birmingham, UK. Paul recently joined the Hull York Medical School as a Lecturer in Human Physiology.
